Wire size and position – Where to buy

As usual NIERLE is the best place for that: it’s not a store with any specific cables but it’s cheaper than other and I was used to buy there in the past.

Wire size and position – AWG vs Metric


There is a list based on diameters of round, solid, nonferrous, electrically conducting wire.
Here a complete Table of AWG wire sizes.
Speakers instructions reported:

  • For short runs of less then 20 feet or so you can use 18 gauge wire
  • For runs of more than 50 feet use 16 gauge wire

Based on the table above:

  • 18 AWG ( <=20 feet / <=6m )
    • Diametre = 1.024 mm
    • Turns of wire = 9.77 per cm
    • Area = 0.823 mm^2
    • Copper resistence = 20.95 Ohm/km
  • 17 AWG ( 20-50 feet / 6-15 m)
    • Diametre = 1.150 mm
    • Turns of wire = 8.70 per cm
    • Area = 1.04 mm^2
    • Copper resistence = 16.61 Ohm/km
  • 16 AWG ( > 50 feet / > 15 m)
    • Diametre = 1.291 mm
    • Turns of wire = 7.75 per cm
    • Area = 1.31 mm^2
    • Copper resistence = 13.17 Ohm/km

Base on this power table cable selection, I should use AWG 16 and AWG 12 with a system of 100 Watts.
